New Map of Carpenter 1 Fire in Mt. Charleston 10:00am

No structures have been lost. No injuries have occurred on the fire.

Fire control objectives include protection of the Trout, Lee and Kyle communities.

There are 18 crews on scene, 8 of which are Type 1 Hotshot crews, the most highly trained. The Hotshot crews we have are the same type as the crew recently lost in Arizona.

There are the following air assets on the fire:

7 helicopters
4 heavy air tankers
39 engines
10 water tenders
18 hot shot crews
VLAT (Very Large Air Tanker. Based on a DC-10). It can drop 11,700 gallons per load.

Fire is located in some very rugged and in inaccessible areas. Engines and other motorized vehicles have limited access.

Daily Neon: Society Cleaners’ Neon Sign

Society Cleaners' refurbished neon sign can be found on Las Vegas Blvd by the on ramp to US-95.

In September 1946, Society Cleaners opened on the corner of 11th Street and Fremont at 1031 East Fremont Street. The Society Cleaners’ neon sign has been installed on Las Vegas Blvd. near the US-95 on ramps and part of the outdoor sign collection from the Neon Museum.

The Society Cleaners’ neon sign with its signature top hat and cane, a reminder of a more elegant era. The Gamette family, who operated their cleaners on Fremont Street for 60 years, donated the sign.

Daily Neon: Blue Angel Motel on East Fremont

Blue Angel Motel on East Fremont Street

The Blue Angel opened in 1956. The well known sign was designed by iconic Neon Designer Betty Willis. Betty who also designed the Fabulous Las Vegas sign. Willis was criticized for depicting the well endowed angel that now over looks the motel. At one time, the angel revolved and was surrounded by blue jays. The Blue Angel was inspired, fittingly enough, by the Blue Fairy in Walt Disney’s classic animated feature, “Pinocchio”.

The Blue Angel closed in 2011.
