Blue Angel Motel Sign

The Blue Angel opened in 1956. The well known sign was designed by iconic Neon Designer Betty Willis. Betty who also designed the Fabulous Las Vegas sign. Willis was criticized for depicting the well endowed angel that now over looks the motel. At one time, the angel revolved and was surrounded by blue jays. The Blue Angel was inspired, fittingly enough, by the Blue Fairy in Walt Disney’s classic animated feature, “Pinocchio”. The Blue Angel closed in 2011.

Daily Neon: Hialeah Motel On Fremont Street

Hialeah Motel at 1924 East Fremont

The Hialeah Motel use to proudly proclaims that its has TV. You can spot the painted over “TV” on the left hand side. The 1924 appears to be an address, not a vintage date. Unfortunately, like many of the old motel marquee masterpieces along Fremont Street, the neon on this motel sign no longer works.
